Ruby Bock

Ruby L. Bock of Jackson, a spunky, humorous, happy lady of 100 years, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

She was born Sept. 16, 1911, on a farm north of Jackson where she grew up, daughter of Henry and Clara Loos Willa.

She was a former member of St. John's United Church of Christ, where she was baptized and confirmed. She graduated from the former McFerron Grade School near Jackson.

She and Alvin Bock were married Nov. 6, 1932, at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson. They lived on the family farm where there were many chores to be done such as milking the cows, feeding the chickens and tending to the large gardens.

An active member of Emanuel Church, she enjoyed LLL Sunday School Class, Friendship Circle and helped plan and prepare many church meals. She was a charter member of Gordonville University of Missouri Extension Club, where she held many offices. After moving to Jackson in 1964 (near the high school), one of her delights was occasionally serving chili to her grandchildren and their friends.

Her employment through the years included the former International Shoe Co., Pioneer Orchards and baby-sitting at First Baptist Church, all in Jackson.

Loving survivors include a son, Larry (Shirley) Bock of Jackson; a daughter, LaDonia (Stanley) Beggs of Jackson; 12 grandchildren, Mark (Christy) Bock, Julie (Gary) Leadbetter, Lee (Debbie) Bock, Patty (Larry) Beussink, Cindy (Billy) Heisserer, Jeff (Christy) Schaefer, Kevin (Courtney) Schaefer, Lance (Samantha) Trankler, Natalie (Eric) Fluchel, Dean Beggs, Scott (Darla) Beggs and Layton (Heather) Beggs; 27 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; a son, Donald Bock; two daughters-in-law, Jane and Alma Bock; a great-great-grandson, Hayden Trankler Melton; a brother, Arnold Willa; and a sister, Trula Schoenebeck.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel United Church of Christ Memorial Fund.
