Ruby J. Bess, 84, of Cape Girardeau went to be with her heavenly father by the Grace of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the home of her daughter in Gordonville.

She was born May 23, 1929, in Wayne County, Mo., to the late Charley and Annie Cook Acup. She was married to the late Estel Bess of Cape Girardeau.

Ruby completed Cape Beauty School in Cape Girardeau, and owned and operated Ruby's Beauty Shop at her home on North Clark Avenue in Cape Girardeau for 50 years. She attended Red Star Baptist Church and then First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Loving survivors include three children, Susan (Brad) Teets of Cape Girardeau, Cindy (Dan) Gerler of Gordonville and Mitchell Bess of Springfield, Mo.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Teets, Christy Teets Harrison, GiGi Gerler Meystedt, Matt Gerler and Sarah Bess Schaefer. She also enjoyed five great-grandchildren, and was looking forward to the birth of her sixth great-grandchild.

Also surviving are four sisters, Eulah Gruender of Freeburg, Ill., Sylvia McClellan of Indianapolis, Betty (Ron) Tolbert of Jackson and Donna (Ralph) Cordero of Glendale, Ariz.; a brother, Bill (Louise) Acup of Marble Hill, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Roy Acup; and two sisters, Beulah Miller Lee and Thelma Gray.

Friends may call from 3:30 to 7 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Matt McDonald officiating. Interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
