Ruben C. "Rip" Schnurbusch, 92, of Old Appleton died Aug. 13, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 27, 1922, in Old Appleton, son of Joseph F. and Elizabeth Helen Ponder Schnurbusch. He and Verda Marie Weisbrod were married Oct. 23, 1948. She survives in Old Appleton.
Rip and his brother Bob began Schnurbusch Egg Co. in 1947. He was the general manager of Farmer's Limestone from 1964 to 1988. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph Men's Club in Apple Creek, K of C Council 1263 and 4th Degree Assembly, American Legion Post 133 and VFW Post 4282, all in Perryville, Missouri. He was a former board member of the Missouri Limestone Association and was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He loved to fish the banks of Apple Creek, bowl for many years, play cards, be out in the woods and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Other survivors include three sons and two daughters, Terry (Cheryl) Schnurbusch, Donna (Larry) Zoellner both of Uniontown, Missouri, Bruce (Debbie) Schnurbusch of Jackson, Karen (Mike) Ochs and Keith (Paula) Schnurbusch, all of Perryville; one brother and one sister, William "Bill" Schnurbusch and Elizabeth "Betty" Rellergert, both of St. Louis; 14 grandchildren, Julie (Jason) Kirkpatrick, Holly (Sam) Godwin, Ashly (Ed) Richardet, Jared (Renea) Schnurbusch, Jenny (Chris) Macke, Jacob Schnurbusch and fiancee Ally Duncan, Dustin (Krystle) Ochs, Daniel Ochs and fiancée Amber King, Derrek Ochs and special friend Alyssa Graff, Kaleb, Kaiti, Trevor, Addilyn and Alexsyn Schnurbusch; and 10 great-grandchildren, Chloe and Nolan Kirkpatrick, Blake and Bella Richardet, Jonah Schnurbusch, Sydney and Cole Macke, Dayton Ochs, Jordan Schuessler and Emma Zahner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandson, Tate Werner; seven brothers, Oscar, Herb, Rudy "Fox", Clarence, Raymond "Bob", Albert "Al" and Harry "Jim" Schnurbusch; and two sisters, Laura Unterreiner and Bertha Unterreiner
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 6:30 to 9:15 a.m. Monday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.
He then will be taken to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek for Mass at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Jim French officiating. Burial with graveside military honors provided by American Legion Post 133 and the Missouri Delta Team in St. Michael Cemetery in Apple Creek, Missouri.
Memorials are preferred to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. Vincent Education Foundation or St. Michael Cemetery in Apple Creek.
