JACKSON -- Roy W. Woeltje, 88, of Jackson, died Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Nov. 26, 1907, at Tilsit, son of Arthur and Wilhelmina Sander Woeltje. He and Ruby Allers were married Oct. 27, 1932. She died Nov. 24, 1981. He later married Eleanor Carter Aug. 15, 1983. She died March 18, 1996...

JACKSON -- Roy W. Woeltje, 88, of Jackson, died Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 26, 1907, at Tilsit, son of Arthur and Wilhelmina Sander Woeltje. He and Ruby Allers were married Oct. 27, 1932. She died Nov. 24, 1981. He later married Eleanor Carter Aug. 15, 1983. She died March 18, 1996.

Woeltje worked at the U.S. Post Office in Jackson 43 years. He had been a mail carrier, clerk, and assistant postmaster. He was also a registered land surveyor.

He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ and its Men's Fellowship, formerly taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Woeltje was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 158.

Survivors include a son, Jim Woeltje of Jackson; a stepson, Alan Carter of Granby, Colo.; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
