COBDEN, Ill. -- Roy Glenn "Jack" Williams, 87, of Cobden died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, at the home of a daughter.
He was born Oct. 16, 1911, in Cobden, son of Oscar D. and Sophia M. Bates Williams. He and Martha Agnes Whelpley were married Nov. 15, 1936, at Cobden. She died Jan. 28, 1994.
Williams had owned the former Jack Williams Chevrolet in Cobden, and later managed the same business for Pearl Motor Co. in Cobden. He was treasurer of Cobden Village 37 years, and served 10 years on the village board.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Cobden Masonic Lodge 466 AF&AM, Oasis Shrine Club and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Southern Illinois, and Anna Chapter of Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Ferrill of Marquette, Mich.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden from 6-8 p.m. Monday. Masonic rites will be at 7:30.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Ryman officiating. Burial will be in Cobden Cemetery.
