EAST PRAIRIE -- Roy Sanders, 66, of East Prairie, formerly of Burnsville, Miss., died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997 at Southeast Missouri Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born Sept. 6, 1930 in Alcorn County, Miss., son of Jessie James Sanders and Charlie Sanders. He married Opal Marks in May 1978.

He is survived by his wife; his mother of Corinth, Miss.; a daughter, Rhonda Osborn of Burnsville, Miss.; three grandchildren; a stepson, Richard Childress of Kansas City; three step-grandchildren; and five brothers, J.C. Sanders of Selmer, Tenn., J.W. and Bobby Sanders, both of Corinth, and Charles Ray and Bill Sanders, both of Rienzi, Miss.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Sanders had lived in Mississippi County since 1982 when he moved from Burnsville. He was a member of the Burnsville Tabernacle. While living in East Prairie, he attended the Freewill Baptist Church. He was a retired machinist.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the Coleman Funeral Home in Corinth. Funeral services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Coleman Chapel, with Brother Noel Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in the Carpenter Cemetery near Burnsville.

Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie is in charge of local arrangements.
