BERNIE -- Roy L. Pounds, 84, of Bernie died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dexter.
He was born July 17, 1914, in Ward, Ark., the son of Richard J. and Gertrude Welsh Pounds.
He married Iva Edna Thornton in Bernie, and she died March 25, 1983. He married Amanda Thornton Rores in Bernie on July 5, 1986. She died July 6, 1998.
He was employed as a state building contractor until his retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #573 in Bernie.
He is survived by four stepsons, Larry Davidson of Sacramento, Calif., Michael Rores and Jimmy Rores of Chicago and Johnny Rores of Long Beach, N.C.; three stepdaughters, Patricia Evans of Dexter, Charlene Burroughs of Lancaster, Calif., and Cathy Rores of Chicago; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Burial will follow in Melrose Abby, Memorial Park, Santa Ana, Calif.
