Roy Clifton Hockersmith, 85, of Missouri Veterans Home died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at the facility.
He was born Aug. 15, 1911, in Mississippi County, son of Thomas Jefferson and Mary Alice Edgman Hockersmith. He and Flossie Gladys Nance were married Dec. 21, 1948, at Jackson. She died Nov. 30, 1979.
Hockersmith had been a section hand with Cotton Belt Railroad, and a deck hand with West Lake Quarry.
He was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church and VFW Post 6407, both in Scott City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include four sisters, Irene Phipps and Allene Ellinger of Scott City, Evelyeene DeRousse of Cape Girardeau, and Dorothy Wasson of East Prairie.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel at Scott City after 6 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. William Dickey officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Memorial Cemetery at Scott City, with VFW graveside rites.
