Roy Hickam

COBDEN, Ill. -- Roy A. Hickam, 89, of Cobden died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at the Marion Veterans Skilled Care Center in Marion, Ill.

He was born May 11, 1913, in Alto Pass, Ill., son of John and Laura Whitson Hickam. He and Mary Helen Harbaugh were married Sept. 20, 1940, in Jackson.

He was owner/operator of Hickam's Garage in Alto Pass for many years before retiring as a farmer. He was a World War II veteran, a life member of Murphysboro Masonic Lodge and he attended Anna Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Gayle Yates of Cobden, Virginia Bittle of Alto Pass, Ill., and Mary Hancock of Granite City, Ill.; three brothers, Russell Hickam of Trenton, Ill., Claude Hickam of Puyallup, Wash., and Paul Hickam of Murphysboro, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers, a sister and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Anna, with Dr. Richard Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery.
