Roy Cook

Roy W. Cook, 91, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Whitewater, died Friday, May 30, 2008, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 28, 1917, in Whitewater, son of Emory D. and Amelia Blumenberg Cook. He and Stella Avis Hartman were married April 12, 1941, in Whitewater. She died Feb. 19, 2002.

Cook was a member of Whitewater United Methodist Church. He was active in the men's club and served on the building committee at the church. He also served on the school board for Maple Grove School in Whitewater and later on the Delta school board from 1948 to 1971.

Survivors include six sons, Ray and W. D. Cook of Chaffee, Mo., Glen Cook of Cape Girardeau, Larry and Rick Cook of Whitewater and Bill Cook of Delta; four daughters, Mary Ridings of Cape Girardeau, Linda Rodgers of Gordonville, Brenda Leimbach and Peggy Culbertson of Jackson; a brother, Leslie Cook of Jackson; a sister, Ruby Stroder of Whitewater; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; and four great-great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, a grandson, a stepgrandson, a great-stepgrandson, a great stepgranddaughter, three sisters and two brothers.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and after 9 a.m. Monday at Whitewater United Methodist Church in Whitewater.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Don Kuehle officiating.

Interment will be in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery at Gordonville.
