Rosie Phegley, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Southeast Hospital.
She was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Lepanto, Ark., to John H. and Docia Mae King Young. She and Albert Willard Phegley were married May 11, 1940, in Ancell. He preceded her in death Jan. 6, 1990.
Rosie was a graduate of Blodgett High School and played basketball. She lived in Cape Girardeau the past 12 years after having lived in the Chaffee, Mo., area 50 years. After moving to Cape Girardeau, she joined Lynwood Baptist Church and previously was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Chaffee.
Rosie loved to cook, garden, visit with friends and family, go on cruises, and help others through her volunteer work. She was a volunteer at Cape Girardeau Senior Center, American Red Cross and many other organizations.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara P. Piper of Lone Tree, Colo.; two sons, James A. Phegley (Laura) and Rodney S. Phegley of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Juli Anne James (Paul) of Littleton, Colo., Marcia ReAnn Pirtle of Cape Girardeau; three great-grandchildren, Mason James and Trenton Isaiah Warren of Cape Girardeau, and Peyton Anne James of Littleton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Connie Rae Phegley; two brothers; and three sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Kevin Coffee and Jack Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Morley, Mo.
