Rosa Leora "Rosalie" Francis, 88, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at The Lutheran Home Assisted Living in Cape Girardeau.
She was born April 20, 1929, in Bonne Terre, Missouri.
Rosalie was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Cape Girardeau, United Methodist Women, Oakcrest Garden Club, of which she served as president, P.E.O., and the Missouri State Teachers Association. She also delivered Meals on Wheels.
She was an avid bridge player, loved to travel and traveled all over the United States and abroad.
Rosalie was a 1947 graduate of Bonne Terre High School. She received her bachelor of science degree in education from Southeast Missouri State in 1970 and later received her master's in education in 1978. She taught third grade at Clippard Elementary School from 1971 until 1992. After retiring she helped implement the "English as a Second Language" program for Cape Girardeau Public Schools.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George H. Mayo and Hilda (Stewart) Rawlins; husband, Robert B. Francis, and sister, Patricia McCarty.
Rosalie is survived by two children, Pam (Roger) Westrich of Cape Girardeau and Robert D. (Tamie) Francis of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Conrad Westrich, Audrey Westrich, Jessica Francis and Christopher Francis; many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the C. Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre with the Rev. Mike Roth officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park.
