Roland Clinton Wagner, 79, of Jackson died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Jackson, son of Henry Joseph and Florentine Louise Wolgast Wagner. He and Betty Ruth McKinney were married Oct. 2, 1948, in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Mr. Wagner graduated from Jackson High School in 1942, and served in the U.S. Army Air Force until 1946.

He was a machinist and co-owner of Wagner Machine and Welding Works. He sang with the Jackson Choral Club and served on the board of Jackson City Library.

Mr. Wagner served as president of Cape Girardeau Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and in other leadership positions within the local district and stake organizations of the church. He most recently served as an ordinance worker in the Missouri St. Louis Temple. At the time of his death, he was patriarch of the Cape Girardeau Stake.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Patricia Wagner of Springfield, Ill.; a brother, Kenneth Wagner of Jackson; three granddaughters, Galadriel, Lyssa and Amberle, all of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeanette Wells.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson, and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Cape Girardeau Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with a military honors service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church's Missionary Fund.
