Roger Miller

THEBES, Ill. -- Roger Kent Miller, 74, of Thebes died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Alexander County, Ill., to Loyd and Velma Grace Honey Miller. He married Vida Jeffords July 22, 1962.

Miller was a member of First Baptist Church in Thebes and the National Rifleman Association. He was a small engine repairman.

He served with the U.S. Army Reserve.

Survivors include his wife, Vida, of Thebes; two daughters, Bonnie (Mike) Smith of Cape Girardeau, Sherry (Don) Smith of Thebes; four grandchildren, Kenny, Heather, Amanda and John; four great-grandchildren, Trevor, Kaima, Andrew and Madison; a brother, Phil (Wanda) Miller of Anna; a sister-in-law, Kathy Miller of LaCenter, Ky.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph Miller.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Terry Mejean officiating. Interment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in Olive Branch, Ill., with military rites by Illinois National Guard.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
