Rodney Edward Truax, 79, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Rodney was born April 9, 1937, in Egan, Louisiana, the son of the late George E. and Beulah Marie Scanlan Truax. He and Lillie Sue Hancock were married June 6, 1966, in Memphis, Tennessee. Rodney Edward Truax, 79, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Rodney was born April 9, 1937, in Egan, Louisiana, the son of the late George E. and Beulah Marie Scanlan Truax. He and Lillie Sue Hancock were married June 6, 1966, in Memphis, Tennessee. She passed away Dec. 8, 2011.

Rodney worked for many years with Missouri Barge Lines as a captain. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing when they were young. He was a Mason and a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association.

Rodney is survived by two sons, Wendell Locklear of Mississippi and Christopher Locklear of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Marcia Crone and Rhonda Pasley, both of Memphis, and Donnetta Slanner of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters, Ethel Jane Johnson of Harlegen, Texas, and Marie Truax-Smith of Nacogdoches, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Garrel, Larry and Elwin "Peanut" Truax; and four sisters, Dorothy Hewlett, Joyce Wattigny, Marguarette Pousson and Janette Young.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Vernon Long officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
