Robert Bland Shepard, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born Oct. 1, 1931, in Cape Girardeau to Otto Bland and Hattie Dirden Shepard. He and Velma Louise Ackman were married March 2, 1957, at Cape Girardeau, celebrating 62 years of marriage. She preceded him in death March 7, 2019.

Robert was a 1949 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956.

Robert worked for E.C. Robinson Lumber Co. and Horton Auto Sales, and was a letter carrier for the Cape Girardeau post office, retiring in 1989 with 30 years of service.

He enjoyed auctions, gardening, sitting on the porch at the farm, reading the newspaper and spending time with his family.

He enjoyed attending Mill Creek Freewill Baptist Church and Bethlehem General Baptist Church with his daughters.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandy (Bill) Lincoln of Leopold, Missouri, and Terri (Eric) Henson of Fredericktown, Missouri; five grandchildren, Tasha (Ryan) Allgier, Brylan Moore, Will (Melanie) Lincoln, Dale Lincoln and Addie Shetley; and two great-grandchildren, Reid and Cade Allgier.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Allen officiating.

Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with his grandchildren serving as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Mill Creek Freewill Baptist Church-Building Fund.
