Robert S. Kerr, 90, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Tamms, Ill., died Friday, Sept. 25, 1992, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.
He was born Dec. 10, 1901, at Oakdale, Ill., son of Joseph H. and Mary A. Patton Kerr. He married the former Nell Todd.
Kerr was a member of the E&R United Church of Christ in Tamms.
He graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, earning a bachelor's degree in 1939 and a master's degree in 1949.
He was a school teacher for 40 years, 37 of those in the Tamms area.
He was director emeritus of Tamms State Bank. He was elected to the board in 1957, served as president from 1963-1974, and then as board chairman from 1974-1986.
He was a member of the Caledonia Lodge No. 47 AF and AM, and the O.E.S. Caledonia Chapter 587. He was also one of the organizers of the Tamms Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, and a sister, Margaret Dahncke of Oakdale.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral service was held Monday at the E&R United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Jesse Hendrix officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery at Swanwick, Ill.
