MOUND CITY, Ill. -- Robert L. Rice, 74, of Mound City died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Mound City, son of William and Grace Knight Rice. He married Dorothy Rice, who preceded him in death.

Rice was employed by Murphy Service Station in Mound City before his retirement.

Survivors include three sons, Cory Rice of Cairo, Ill., Jimmie Butler of Pell City, Ala., and Kevin Butler of Mound City; two daughters, Kim Malone, of Villa Ridge, Ill., Christina Cooper-Lewis of Rantoul, Ill.; a brother, Jack Rice of Chicago; a sister, Evelyn Scherer of Glen Carbon, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Barkett Funeral Home in Mound City.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert D. McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds.
