Robert Lee “Bob” Miller, 81, of St. Peters died Monday, March 18, 2024, at NHC Healthcare in Maryland Heights.
He was born Aug. 20, 1942, in Cape Girardeau to Carl and Catherine Brugger Miller. He and Pamela Garner were married March 3, 1962, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, riding his motorcycle, camping, boating and traveling.
Bob started his career at Ozarc Gas Equipment and Supply in 1964 doing various jobs. He then become owner of Aero Welding Supply Co. in Mount Vernon, Illinois, from June 1977 to March 1986. He continued his career with different entities of Praxair. In June 2001, he retired as operations manager at Praxair in St. Louis. After retirement, Bob and Pam spent their time traveling in their motor home visiting family and attending NASCAR races.
In the ’70s, Bob was a member of the Civil Defense in Cape Girardeau County and was responsible for the police, fire and rescue units. He joined the Masonic Lodge in 1983 and became a 32nd-degree Mason. He was also an Elks Lodge member from 1977 to the present.
Survivors include two sons, Larry W. (Tracy) Miller of St. Louis and Timothy L. (Leigh) Miller of Houston; brother, John (Debbie) Miller of Ballwin; three sisters, Mary Helen Smith of De Soto, Debbie (Paul) Lappe of Cape Girardeau and Susie (Vernon) Pobst of Oran; six grandchildren, Josh (Aimee) Wallace of St. Louis, Zach Wallace of Kansas City, Danielle (Tanner) Willburn of Hockley, Texas, Caleigh (Jacob) Honza of Tomball, Texas, and Brody Miller and Austin Miller, both of Houston; and two great-grandchildren, Rowan Wallace of St. Louis and Ryder Willburn of Hockley.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pamela Miller; and two brothers, Larry and Joe Miller.
A celebration of his life will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. The family requests no suits, ties or black mourning clothing. This is a casual, no-fuss celebration, just as Bob would have wanted.
Memorial service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer’s Association or Diabetes Association.
