Robert Meeks
WYATT, Mo. -- Robert Gene "Bob" Meeks, 68, of Wyatt, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 25, 1940, in Bertrand, Mo., to George Franklin "Frank" and Retta Lorene Eastwood Meeks. He and Paula Suzanne Thurman were married Aug. 27, 1988.
Meeks had worked at Heppe's Body Shop a number of years and was currently working with Stoney Creek Construction. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, and was a longtime member of the IOOF Lodge having served in many capacities.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Meeks II, stationed with the U.S. Army at Fort Wainwright, Alaska; two stepsons, Billy Morgan of Fruitland, Bob Morgan of Dexter, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Patricia Groves of East Prairie, Mo., and Bobbie Hodges of Sikeston, Mo.
Also two brothers, the Rev. Billy Meeks of Bertrand, Donald Meeks of Billingsley, Ala.; five sisters, Deloris Spiller of Bertrand, Mary Allen of East Prairie, Judy Skinner of Sikeston, Mae McClain of Charleston and Jan Harper of Knoxville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, a grandson and two brothers.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Henry Catholic Church, with the Rev. Scott Sunnenberg officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery near Charleston with military rites provided by Missouri Military Honors Program.
