Robert "Bob" William Landgraf Sr., 91, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at Jackson Manor.

Bob was born March 11, 1924, to Rueben and Ruby Sachse Landgraf. He was raised mostly in Pocahontas, except for a short time in Imperial, Missouri, when his father was building St. John's Lutheran Church.

He graduated from Jackson High School in 1943.

A lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, Bob was baptized, confirmed and married his wife, Alice June Reisenbichler, at Zion Church on July 18, 1948. He also was a Sunday school teacher, adult Bible-study leader and held numerous offices and responsibilities in the church over his lifetime.

Bob always was working to make his community better for future generations. A member of the volunteer Sheriff's Patrol in the 1960s, a 4-H volunteer leader for over 35 years, on the Cape County Board for Handicapped Facilities (president for 35 years), and a volunteer for Stephens Ministry at the Veterans Home are just a few positions he held within the community. He even tried to serve his country during World War II, being denied four attempts into the military due to health. Instead, Bob and his father traveled Missouri, Kansas and Tennessee building military camps for the war effort.

In 1945, Robert started working at Landgraf Construction, which his father established in 1922, and remains in business to this day. He was a general contractor, building homes, business offices, churches and assisted-living facilities in the surrounding counties until he passed the business to his son in 2010.
