Robert Ralph Jones, 71, of Delta died Friday, July 9, 2010, at his farm northwest of Delta.

He was born Nov. 22, 1938, at Pollock, S.D., to John Paul and Amelia Schaefer Jones.

He and Ruth McBreairty Jones were married March 12, 1983, at Bossier City, La.

Mr. Jones retired at the rank of E6 from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service from 1958 to 1978. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a life member of AFSA and NCOA.

Bob retired from Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, La. He moved from Bossier City to Delta in 1993. He enjoyed raising birds and small animals as a hobby.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Jones of Delta; three sons, Douglas Jones of Bossier City, Michael Jones of Lebanon, Tenn., and Steven Gardner of Delta; a brother, Wilbur Jones of Fayetteville, N.C.; a sister, Florence Abbott of Portland, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Gardnar.

Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Full military honors by the Missouri Honors Team will be conducted at the funeral home.

Private entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society.
