Robert Dean "Bob" Dumey, 84, of Jackson passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at his home.

He was born Dec. 9, 1931, in Sandy Ridge, Missouri, to Linus and Fern Williams Dumey. Robert and Mary E. McElyea were married May 12, 1956, at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran. They had two daughters.

He was a 1950 graduate of Chaffee High School and served honorably in the U.S. Navy.

During his lifetime, Bob did a variety of jobs. He managed apartment buildings in Chicago during the 1950s and 1960s. In 1967, he and Mary opened a Dixie Cream doughnut shop in Boulder, Colorado. Relocating to Jackson in 1969, he worked for Dixie Cream's corporate headquarters, setting up new Dixie Cream doughnut shops across the nation. In 1972, he and Mary opened Bob's Donuts in Jackson. He was later employed as the carpenter at Saint Francis Medical Center and was very proud he was the first employee at the Mount Auburn location.

Bob was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Bishop-Timon K.C. Council 6405, both in Jackson. When his daughters were young, he enjoyed coaching girls softball in the summer recreational leagues.

One of Bob's greatest joys was raising Brittany bird dogs. To his family and friends, he was the teller of funny stories, the habitual jokester, and the source of wise counsel.
