Robert A. Decker, 69, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 19, 1942, in Chicago to Arthur Allen Decker and Delores Catherine (Murphy/Decker) Sitzes. Parents Delores C. Sizes and stepfather Fred B. Sitzes preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 2009, and Dec. 13, 2007. He was married to Mary Alice Smolen Decker, who preceded him on Oct. 23, 1968. Children preceding him were Mary Alice Decker and stepson Rick Smolen.
Robert worked for Marshall Field's as a manager while living in Chicago before moving to Cape Girardeau, where he worked for K's Merchandise in the jewelry department. He also enjoyed a successful career in the retail shoe industry in New York City and Detroit. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them as much as possible.
Survivors include his sisters, Sandy (Mike) Hovis of Advance, Mo., Patti Norman of Cape Girardeau; nephew Andrew Hovis of Advance; niece Kathryn Norman of Cape Girardeau; and stepdaughter Sandy Smolen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant daughter and stepson.
Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
A graveside service will be Friday at Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago. Burial will follow at Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago.
