Robert Charles Brown Sr., a longtime resident of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died Monday August 10, 1998 at St. Francis Hospital in Cape.
The son of W. W. (Cap) and Inez Spalding Brown, he was born March 27, 1928 in Cape ounty.
He married Dorothy J. Whitson on June 30, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Brown worked six years at Krogers and also 14 years at the Marquette Cement Plant. He was owner of The Brown Company Heating and A.C for 36 years. He served in the Navy Reserve 50 years ago.
Mr. Brown was a member of St. Mark;s Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was a member of Elks Lodge 639 and American Legion Post 63. In addition, he was an avid outdoorsman and gardener.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Whitson Brown; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Robert Charles Jr. and Doreen Brown, Fred and Kim Brown, James and Crystal Brown, and Joseph Brown, all of Cape Girardeau; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda K. Williams of Cape and Rebecca and James Foister of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandsons, Scott Huffman of Arlington, Tex., James Huffman of Jacksonville, Fla., William Brown, Shaun Brown, Fred Brown Jr., Chuck Brown, Michael Brown, and Codey Williams, all of Cape Girardeau; two granddaughters, Aimee Brown and Chelsey Brown, both of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Doris Roberts of Bonne Terre, Mo.; and two brothers, Jerry T. Brown and Larry D. Brown, both of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Agnes Henete of Cape and a brother W. W. Brown Jr. of Herrin, Ill.
Visitation will be at Ford and Sons Funeral Home, Mt. Auburn Road, from 4:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 1998 with an Elks service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Ford and Sons Funeral Home, the Rev. Robert Klein of St. Mark's Lutheran Church officating. Interment will be at Lorimer Cemetary following an American Legion service.
Pallbearers include Paul Simpson, John Koch, David Patrick, Harry Krueger, Pete Whitson, and Rich Richardson. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Kimbrel, Lou Hannaford, Harold Gerlach, and Peyton Patrick.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mark's Lutheran Church audio system fund.
