Retired Col. Robert Carl Roth, 77, of North Springfield, Va., died Saturday, Dec. 31, 1994, at Walter Reed Army Hospital.
He was born Dec. 9, 1917, in Cape Girardeau, son of Theodore William and Dorothea Martha Elizabeth Kies Roth. He and Lorene Lena Ruppel were married Oct. 5, 1938, in Arlington, Va.
Roth was commissioned into Missouri National Guard in 1938, entered active military service in 1940, integrated into regular Army in 1946, and converted from infantry to military intelligence in 1963. He retired in February 1972 from the Defense Intelligence Agency as assistant deputy director for Human Resource Collection.
He served five tours, including Korea, Southeast Asia and Japan. He received the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Korean Distinguished Service Medal.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Roth Jr. of Kent, Wash., Oliver Roth of Montgomery, Ala.; a brother, Paul Roth of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Brewer of Arlington, Va., and a granddaughter.
Friends may call at Demaine Springfield-Annandale Chapel in Springfield, Va., from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
