Robert Bunn

Robert Emerson Bunn, 77, of Cape Girardeau entered eternal rest Saturday, March 2, 2013.

He was born Dec. 31, 1935, in Tulsa, Okla., son of the late Earl N. and Audrey G. Bunn. He and Auna Lee Kissinger were married May 7, 1960, in Springfield, Mo.

Robert received a bachelor's degree from Missouri State University (formerly Southwest Missouri State College) in 1958.

After graduation from the university, Robert enlisted in the Army National Guard serving on active duty at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Fort Chaffee, Ark. He was recalled to active military duty again in 1961, serving at Fort Leonard Wood.

Robert joined the United States Treasury Department as a computer programmer/analyst in 1960, and in 1967 he joined General Electric as a computer account manager. After Honeywell's 1970 acquisition of General Electric's Information Systems Division, Robert worked for Honeywell's Federal Computer Systems Division.

At Honeywell, he was involved with project WWMCCS (Worldwide Military Command and Control System), a highly sophisticated, fully integrated military network. At the time, this was the largest computer order placed by the federal government consisting of 34 large-scale interconnected Honeywell mainframe computers strategically installed worldwide.

Robert earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Missouri. That same year he left the computer business and acquired a major branded wholesale petroleum company that he operated until 1995. He later operated a petroleum jobber and convenience store brokerage business until retiring in 2005.

He was an active lifetime member of Louis K. Juden American Legion Post 63, member of Post 63 Honor Guard, and in 2004 and 2005 he served two consecutive terms as post commander.

Robert is survived by a son, Stephen Bunn and wife Melonie of West Plains, Mo.; a sister, Doris McDermott of Charles Town, W.Va.; and a brother, William Bunn and wife Barbara of Conyers, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl N. and Audrey G. Bunn.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park, with full military honors by American Legion Post 63 and Missouri Honors Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Legion Post 63.
