Robert A. Bruns, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at the Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Nov. 25, 1933, in Sunman, Ind., to John Anthony and Olivia Wallpe Bruns. He and Aline Loraine Maltry were married June 8, 1963, in Cincinnati.

Robert served his country in the U.S. Army.

He was a professor of mathematics at Southeast Missouri State University for 30 years. He was a graduate of Ball State University and received a master's degree at Highland University in Las Vegas, N.M. He enjoyed fishing, playing bridge and was an all-around sports fan. He also was a SEMO Booster Club member and frequented Sand's Pancake House.

Robert was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau; Knights of Columbus Council 1111 Thomas A. Langen Assembly, Fourth Degree; and St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Survivors include his wife, Aline Bruns of Cape Girardeau; three sons, John (Lena) Bruns of Cape Girardeau, Raymond (Vanessa) Bruns of Virginia Beach, Va., and Alan (Danna) Bruns of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Susan Aline (Ed) Casleton of Green Bay, Wis.; a brother, Gerald Bruns of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; three sisters, Marjorie Frey of St. Leon, Ind., Dorothy Steinmetz of Lawrenceburg and Rosalind Vogelsang of Harrison, Ohio; six grandchildren, Amanda Bruns, Luke Bruns, Rachel Casleton, Tyler Bruns, Justin Casleton and Emily Bruns.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alfred Bruns; a sister, Bernadette Stenger; and a grandchild, Abby Bruns.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be said at 7 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, with full military rites by the Missouri Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cape Girardeau or the Missouri Veterans Home, 2400 Veterans Memorial Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
