Robert Charles Blattner, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born April 18, 1922, in Cape Girardeau, son of Charles F. and Helen Kies Blattner. He and Earlene Schrader were married March 21, 1942, at Dexter, Mo. She died Nov. 20, 1990.
Blattner graduated from Central High School in 1940. He entered the Coast Guard in 1942 and trained at Owensboro, Ky. After serving a number of stations in this country, he was transferred to sea duty in October 1944. He served in the Pacific and participated in the Okinawa Campaign and in the Philippines as a member of Beach Party. He served on the USS J.T. Dickman.
He received a B.A. degree in agriculture in 1949 from the University of Missouri.
He worked for Country Club Dairy in Kansas City following graduation. He then managed the dairy production for Sunny Hill Dairy in Cape Girardeau from 1954 to 1974, and then for Prairie Farms Dairy in Cape Girardeau from 1974 to 1982, when he retired.
Blattner was a lifelong member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, member of VFW Post 3838, and Evening Exchange Club.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John A. and Jane Blattner of Cape Girardeau, Dr. Robert E. Blattner and Dr. Mary Lou Blattner of Greeley, Colo.; two brothers, Paul Blattner of Gordonville, Mo., Charles Blattner of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Charlotte Sherfield of Cape Girardeau, Jean Henry of St. Louis, Barbara Schaffner of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Roger Blattner, Laura Blattner, Angela Blattner and Sarah Blattner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a brother, Donald Blattner.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. James Caughlan officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park, with military rites by VFW Post 3838.
