Robert "Bob" Blattel, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.
He was born April 18, 1932, in Ancell, son of Fred and May Collie Blattel. He and Peggy Caraker were married May 14, 1960, at St. Mary's Cathedral.
Bob joined the Air Force on Nov. 7, 1950. He served in Korea as a cargo flander for the 1600th Air Terminal Squadron. He was honorably discharged Nov. 6, 1954, with the Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
His first job was at the cement plant in Cape Girardeau. He worked on the line for Procter & Gamble, maintenance at St. Vincent's Church and School in Cape Girardeau and Kelly Transport in Cape Girardeau.
He is survived by his wife of Perryville, Missouri; two daughters, Gail (Craig) Degenhardt of Atlanta and Karen (Bill) Pearce of Perryville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and a son-in-law, David Pearce.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating.
