Robert Antone Backfisch, 71, of Scott City died Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 27, 1945, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Charles and Delphine Glastetter Backfisch. He married Jacqueline Baldwin on Jan. 14, 1967.

Robert was a farmer and worked as a butcher at Scott City Meat Processing and Essner’s Custom Butchering. He loved to deer hunt, fish and take care of farm animals, and raised American Kennel Club boxers.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Tina (Rick) Lands of Benton, Missouri, and Gayla (Chris) Clayton of Scott City; three granddaughters, Hailey and Chloe Clayton and Madison Lands; six brothers, Paul Backfisch of Scott City, Sylvester, Vernon and James Backfisch of Benton, Dennis Backfisch of Abilene, Texas, and Carl Backfisch of Tucson, Arizona; and five sisters, Norma Miller and Joyce Austin of Benton, Mary Farris of Thebes, Illinois, Ruth Ann Gowin of Kingsford Heights, Indiana, and Carol Lee of Chaffee, Missouri.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Teresa Williams officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Memorial Cemetery in Scott City.
