MOUNDS, Ill. -- Riley R. Hurley, 81, of Mounds died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at Charleston Manor in Charleston, Mo.

He was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Tiline, Ky., son of George and Florence Guess Hurley. He first married Eleanore Hurley, who died in 1958. He later married Marian Klein.

Hurley was employed by Ohio Valley Barge Line Co., retiring as a chief engineer in 1979. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mound City.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Elaine Clanahan of Mound City, Patricia Lewis of Belleville, Florence McCue of Riverton; a son, Dennis Hurley of New Baltimore, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Harriet Mize of Carterville; a stepson, Stephen Joyner of Washington, D.C.; a half sister, Lois Kubiak of South Bend, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a stepgrandchild.

He was preceded in death by two sons, a sister, and a brother.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Mounds after 5 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Bill McGhee officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
