JACKSON, Mo. -- Richard G. "Dick" Schmidt, 68, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at his home near Shawneetown, Mo.
He was born Aug. 1, 1932, in Fort Madison, Iowa, son of Lee and Adaline Wilmesmeier Schmidt.
He moved to Jackson in 1966. He trained and bred horses and was a known horse whisperer for many years.
He and Donna R . Boyle were married Dec. 26, 1951.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dale R. Schmidt of Jackson; two daughters, Sharon Ann Morre and Julia Nadine Clifton, both of Perryville; four brothers, Harold Killoren of Fort Madison, Iowa, Carl Schmidt of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jerry Schmidt, of Rapid City, S.D., and Leo Schmidt of Davenport, Iowa; three sisters, Jean Ford of Largo, Fla., Donna McGroarty of Naples, Fla., and Rosemary Fraune of Waterloo, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Msgr. Edward Eftink officiating.
