Richard Gregory Schaefer, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. He was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Dutchtown, son of Jacob and Emma Schwepker Schaefer. He married Mabel Hunze on Sept. 20, 1991. He worked as an electrician for Ameren UE from 1954 until his retirement in 1985...

Richard Gregory Schaefer, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Dutchtown, son of Jacob and Emma Schwepker Schaefer. He married Mabel Hunze on Sept. 20, 1991.

He worked as an electrician for Ameren UE from 1954 until his retirement in 1985.

He was a U.S. Navy survivor of Pearl Harbor and had held memberships in Elks Club and VFW Post 3838. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus fourth degree and St. Mary Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gerald Clubb of Cape Girardeau and Michael Schaefer of St. Charles; one brother, John Schaefer of Victoria, Texas; one sister, Margaret Long of Newburg, Ore.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel. Parish Prayers will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the KC Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Cathedral Church, Msgr. Rolwing officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
