TAMMS, Ill. -- Richard D. Moss, 73, of Tamms died at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Richard was born Nov. 3, 1943, in Washington, Illinois, the son of Charles T. and Bonetta E. Abercrombie Moss. He married Karen Starheim on Feb. 3, 1968.
He was a farmer for nearly 50 years in Alexander County, Illinois, and was owner/operator of Abercrombie and Moss Farms. He served on the South Water Board, Farm Bureau, Fruit Belt, Illinois Agriculture Leadership program, Southern Illinois and Egyptian Electric Cooperative board and the State Board Electric Cooperative.
He also was a tool-and-die fabricator and welder. He had worked on the moon rover dash panel. He enjoyed car-audio stereo competitions, hunting, fishing and remote-control cars.
Richard is survived by his wife, Karen Moss of Tamms; daughter, Regina (Shawn) Moss Naeter and children, Trenten (fiancee, Destiny), Chase and Sofia of Dallas; son, Shane (Susan) Moss and children, Graer, Brindel and Asher of Jackson; sister, Charle Sue (Duane) Varble of Reno, Nevada; Karen's brother, Eric (Patty) Starheim of Norwalk, California; and nieces and nephews, Valerie, Reid, Erica, Brianne and Matthew.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.
Funeral service for Richard D. Moss will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Bill Littrell officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Dongola, Illinois.
