OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Richard D. "Dick" Jones, 81, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away March 1, 2008, at the Kansas City Hospice House. He was born March 13, 1926, in Carthage, Mo., to Norman and Reba Jones. Jones graduated from Central High School in Springfield, Mo., Drury College in Springfield, and the University of Missouri, Columbia Law School with a J.D. degree. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Richard D. "Dick" Jones, 81, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away March 1, 2008, at the Kansas City Hospice House. He was born March 13, 1926, in Carthage, Mo., to Norman and Reba Jones.

Jones graduated from Central High School in Springfield, Mo., Drury College in Springfield, and the University of Missouri, Columbia Law School with a J.D. degree. He was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity, Seven Sages and Phi Delta Phi.

Dick was married Feb. 9, 1952, to Ellen Drew Kurrus in her grandmother's house in Webster Groves, Ill. Dick and Ellen resided in Cape Girardeau, where Dick worked and became a partner in the law firm of Oliver, Oliver and Jones.

In Cape Girardeau, Dick was a member, elder and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member and past president of the Cape Girardeau Public Library Board and a board member and past president of the Cape Girardeau Jaycees and Chamber of Commerce.

As a Missouri Bar member, he served as chairman of the Circuit Bar Committee, the Insurance Law Committee, and the Real Property, Probate and Trust Committee.

Dick is survived by his wife, Ellen, of 56 years; four daughters, Louisa and Laurie, Sara Sweeney and husband, John, all of Overland Park, Kan., Drew Dement and husband, Kenny of Sikeston, Mo.; a son, Dan and wife, Casey of Fort Smith, Ariz.; grandchildren Ellie, Johnny, Caroline, Matt, Chelsea, Allie, Kevin, Madison, Kelly, Drew and Baker.

Dick loved tennis, making models, hunting and fishing. Everyone in the family knew he could fix anything.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2008, at the McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, Mo.

The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, Mo. 64114.

McGilley State Line Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
