Richard Boss, 70, of Whitewater passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at Chaffee Nursing Center.
He was born July 27, 1946, in Cape Girardeau to the late William Lee and Jewell Gray Boss. He married LaDonna Urhahn on June 30, 1979, and she survives of the home.
Richard was a retired machine operator with Leggett-Platt in Cape Girardeau.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He loved his wife, children and grandchildren.
He enjoyed many hobbies. He liked to hunt and fish. Richard was a skilled wood worker and gifted gardener. He cared for many stray animals that became family.
Survivors also include two daughters, Veronica (Joe) Biver of Troy, Illinois, and Crystal (Steve) Smith of Oran, Missouri; and four grandchildren, Lucy Peskar, Teagan Griffith, Kennedy and Spencer Biver.
Many family members helped to care for Richard, especially Belinda Webb and Melissa Clang.
He also was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Boss.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with Matt Buttrum. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau. Missouri Honors will do a full military service.
In lieu of flowers, make donations to Chaffee Nursing Center or the Alzheimer's Association.
