Richard L. Bliss, 84, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Lutheran Home. He was born Oct. 30, 1918, in Grand Rapids, Mich., son of John L. and Lilian I. Rombauer Bliss. Richard L. Bliss, 84, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Oct. 30, 1918, in Grand Rapids, Mich., son of John L. and Lilian I. Rombauer Bliss. He and Nancy Hamilton were married Oct. 1, 1948, in St. Louis.

Bliss received a master's degree in architecture from Washington University.

He was an architect with P. John Hoener and Wedemeyer, Cernick Corrubia Inc., both in St. Louis. He taught the history of architecture at Washington University night school 25 years. He attended Eliot Unitarian Chapel in Kirkwood, Mo. He moved to Cape Girardeau in November 2002 from Kirkwood.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Joni Bliss of Cape Girardeau; a daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Steven Mellies of Cape Girardeau; a brother, John Bliss of Brevard, N.C.; three grandchildren, Andrew Mellies, Rebecca Bliss and Bailey Bliss, all of Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Kirkwood.

Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
