JONESBORO, Ill. -- Richard Ivan Arnold, 68, of Jonesboro peacefully passed away Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by family.

JONESBORO, Ill. -- Richard Ivan Arnold, 68, of Jonesboro peacefully passed away Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by family.

He was born Jan. 13, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, to William Lloyd and Rosebud Markhart Arnold. He and Cecilia Enderle were married at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, Mo.

Richard received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1965. He was a member of Union County Knights of Columbus 6968, Anna Moose Lodge and VFW Men's Auxiliary in Anna, Ill., and was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Paducah, Ky.

He was a registered professional engineer with Illinois Department of Transportation. After his service of 33 years and 11 months, Richard retired and then worked for Union County Highway Department 10 years.

Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Arnold of Jonesboro; two sons, William Lloyd Arnold of Tucson, Ariz., Douglas P. Arnold of Paducah; a son-in-law, Jerry J. Menees of Millstadt, Ill.; two grandsons, Jerry Richard Menees and Brandon Scott Menees of Millstadt; and a great-granddaughter, Isabella Cheyenne Menees of Millstadt. Other survivors include brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Mary Lou Heisserer of Oran, Mo., and Mark and Georgia Ressel of Kelso.

Nieces and nephews include Annette Ressel of Jackson, Colette and Paul Hendrickson, Stephen and Sandy Ressel of Cape Girardeau, Karl and Barbara Heisserer of Indianapolis, Melvin and Shirley Heisserer of Shiloh, Ill., Dolores Heisserer of Oran, Ron and Diane Enderle of Scott City, Mark and Jane Ressel of Kelso; many great-nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends.

Richard loved country music, NASCAR, movies, traveling, playing pool and cards with family. He would entertain with his piano and trumpet playing. He also enjoyed teaching his son Doug piano, as well as playing trumpet with both sons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Pamela Mary Arnold-Menees.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 15 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Paducah. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Paducah.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.
