Rex Lewis

Rex Edward Lewis, 84, of Jackson passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at his home.

He was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Jackson, son of Glenn E. and Mabel Fox Lewis. He married Betty Schramm.

Mr. Lewis was a graduate of Jackson High School and Southeast Missouri State University.

He was in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, serving in the South Pacific and occupied Germany. After his active duty he served his country in the Air Force Reserve more than 20 years, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

After his active duty service, Mr. Lewis worked for the Unisys Corp. in Salt Lake City, Utah, until his retirement.

He was an avid hiker and skier, and loved his time on the computer. He had an incredible vibrant personality and an endless curiosity. He taught us to ski, hike, and look at every rock on the way. We love you, Dad.

Surviving is his wife, Betty; a daughter, Suzanne Lewis of Moab, Utah; a son, Wolfi Lewis of Park City, Utah; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a large loving family in Jackson. He is also survived by Val Lund, Clyde and many friends.

Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Episcopal Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Bob Towner officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with military honors to be conducted.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
