TILSIT -- The Rev. Julius Strelow, 93, of Litchfield, Ill., died Sunday, March 29, 1992, in St. Paul, Minn. He was pastor of the Lutheran church at Tilsit from 1970-75. A native of Pierce, Neb., he graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Neb., in 1918. He taught for a time in Canistota, S.D., then went back to seminary and graduated from Concordia Seminary in Springfield, Ill., in 1922...

TILSIT -- The Rev. Julius Strelow, 93, of Litchfield, Ill., died Sunday, March 29, 1992, in St. Paul, Minn. He was pastor of the Lutheran church at Tilsit from 1970-75.

A native of Pierce, Neb., he graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Neb., in 1918. He taught for a time in Canistota, S.D., then went back to seminary and graduated from Concordia Seminary in Springfield, Ill., in 1922.

Strelow and his wife, Louise, served two years in the mission field in Argentina. He served Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield 28 years, and then at churches in Kansas, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Missouri. He served as a supply pastor from 1975-85.

He was secretary of the Southern Illinois District 15 yers, served on the district mission board, was a member of the district board of directors 20 years, and was second vice president of the district four years.

Survivors include six daughters, Wanda Suelflow of St. Paul, Minn., Ruth Gierach of Monona, Wis., Veleda Fanelli of Santa Clara, Calif., Julia Sparling of Bridgeton, Rowena Horn of Westminster, Colo., Vera Loose of Brandon, Miss.; six sons, Edmund Strelow of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Kenneth Strelow of Gray Summit, Delmar Strelow of Savannah, Ga., Gilbert Strelow of Madison, Wis., Rev. Lloyd Strelow of Tustin, Calif., Mark Strelow of Illinois; 38 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons a daughter, two brothers and a sister.

A service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Church in Litchfield. The Rev. David V. Dissen will officiate, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery there.
