The Rev. J. Earl Sams, 75, 211 S. Park, died Thursday, May 18, 1995, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Nov. 16, 1919, at Burfordville, son of Joseph M. and Dolly Huckstep Sams. He and Jeanette Limbaugh were married Nov. 21, 1941, in Cape Girardeau.
Sams was an ordained minister with the Church of the Nazarene. He pastored churches in Alaska, and was a cruise ship tour guide in Southeast Alaska. He retired in 1974. He had also worked visitations at Ford and Sons Funeral Home here.
He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and VFW Post 3838.
Sams was a graduate of Central High School and played football. He served in the U.S. Army in North Africa and Italy during World War II, and was a commando under Gen. George Patton. He was a first class radioman and second class gunner.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Mike Sams; two brothers, Otis and John Sams, all of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel after 10 a.m. Sunday.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. E.K. Purcell officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
