CAIRO, Ill. -- The Rev. Harry Thomas Stout Jr., 58, of Du Quoin, Ill., passed away Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at his home.
His grade school was at St. Joseph's School in Cairo, and his high school was Preparatory Seminary at Belleville, Ill. He got his college degree from Quincy College and his theologian school was from St. Meinrad School of Theology.
He was ordained as a priest May 28, 1977. The Illinois parishes he served were the Cathedral of St. Peter in Belleville, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, Ill., St. Clare Catholic Church at O'Fallon, Ill, St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Waterloo, Ill., St. Joseph Catholic Church at Ridgway, St. John The Baptist Catholic Church at Red Bud, Ill., and Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Du Quoin.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He had been a Diocesan CYO moderator, a vocation director and a diocesan spiritual director of the TEC Program. He was a member of the Priest Senate. He had been a dean of the West Deanery, and was on the personnel board.
He was born Aug. 9, 1951, in Cairo, son of Harry Thomas and Sarah Ann Baudino Stout.
He is survived by five brothers and sisters, Mary Helen Wissinger and husband Jeff of Cairo, Nan Hall and husband Tom of Centralia, Ill., John Stout and wife Carol of Mounds, Ill., Bill Stout and wife Sheila of Olmsted, Ill., Peggy Berryhill of Cape Girardeau; two aunts, Elizabeth Turner and husband Don of Cairo, Mary Eileen Karcher and husband Dick of Cairo; an uncle, Brother John Stout CSC of Notre Dame, Ind.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Bob Flannery officiating.
Friends may call from noon until the time of service at the church.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cairo, with Bishop Stanley Schlarmann officiating. Final commendations will be by Bishop Edward K. Braxton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Villa Ridge, Ill.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Church.
Friends may make memorials to donors choice of Rev. Stout's parishes or home parish or the TEC Program.
