JACKSON -- The Rev. Harley Statler, 88, of Jackson, died Tuesday, June 9, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 2, 1903, at Sedgewickville, son of Marvin and Hannah Hahs Statler. He and Lucille Seabaugh were married Jan. 12, 1922. She died Oct. 18, 1985.

Statler was a grocer in Cape Girardeau from 1924-38, and owned Harley Statler Mercantile at Sedgewickville from 1938-48.

He attended Southern Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Ark. He began in the ministry in 1935. He pastored Caney Fork, Perkins, Allenville, Southside and Little Whitewater Baptist Churches, and in Reyno, Ark.

Statler was a member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church, where he was director of Sunday School Extension Department and Outreach Bible Study.

Survivors include two daughters, Alverta Nelson Johnson, Sedgewickville Route 2, Laverla Luter of Bossier City, La.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Raymond Epps officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
