SIKESTON -- The Rev. Donald Lee Fulton Sr., 59, of Sikeston, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 1995, at DePaul Health Center in St. Louis.
He was a longtime educator here, and former mayor and city councilman.
Fulton was born April 23, 1935, in St. Louis, son of Lawrence and Carrie Madison Fulton. He and Ida Mae Harris were married Jan. 7, 1962.
He received a bachelor of science degree from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, and master of science degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Fulton had been employed by Sikeston Public Schools as an elementary teacher and principal, assistant middle school principal, assistant high school principal, supervisor of Adult Education Program, and director of special services. He was currently coordinator of the literacy program (STAIRS) for the University of Missouri.
He served as mayor from 1975-77. He was past member of DAEOC Board, past chairman of Delta Headstart Board, and past neighborhood chairman with Boy Scouts.
Fulton was a member of West End Missionary Baptist Church, where he was associate minister, member of Trustees Board, vice moderator and board member of Christian Liberty District Association.
He was also a member of Peaceful Lodge 18 F&AM of Missouri, past master of Harmony Lodge 40 of Cape Girardeau, past patron of Ruby B. Hughes 117 Order of Eastern Star, past district deputy grand master, past high priest of Royal Arch Masons Chapter 8, grand treasurer of United Grand Commandery Knights Templar, member of Magalene Court 5 Order of Cyrenes, and emminent commander of Robert Haynes 4 Knights Templar.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Donald Fulton Jr. of Magnolia, Ark., Benny Harris of Bradley, Ark.; three daughters, Michelle Fulton of Kansas City, Janalynn and Jeanine Fulton of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Lawrence Fulton of Bonne Terre, Robert Fulton of St. Louis, Stan Fulton of Atwater, Ga.; five sisters, Ruth Blanks, Marjorie Hines, Audrey Turner and Ramona Herd of St. Louis, Mary White of San Antonio, Texas, and four grandchildren.
Friends may call at West End Church from 6-8 p.m. today. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church, with Dr. Aubrey Jones officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
