SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Rev. Dolan Franklin Rogers, 83, of Sikeston died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Sardis, Tenn., son of Stephen Franklin and Mary Jane "Janie" Robins Rogers. He and Mary E. Brewer were married July 14, 1952, in Lavinia, Tenn.
Rogers was a graduate of Union University in Jackson, Tenn., and Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. He moved to Sikeston in 1954 from Holland, Mo.
He taught school in the 1950s and 1960s, including nine years as Spanish and business teacher at Sikeston High School and was coordinator of the distributive education program six years.
Rogers was principal 10 years at Scott County Central High School, five years as principal at Southland High School in Cardwell, Mo., and three years as principal at Bunker High School in Bunker, Mo. He was a member of Retired Teachers Association.
He was also a Southern Baptist minister and served as pastor of many churches in Southeast Missouri. He was currently pastor of First Baptist Church in Bertrand, Mo.
Rogers was a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater and participating in the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include his wife.
He was preceded in death by a son, six brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Keith Huffman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Missouri Military Funeral Honor Guard.
