FRIEDHEIM, Mo. -- The Rev. Armin Ulfert Deye, 92, of Emporia, Kan., died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006. He was born July 10, 1913, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, son of John and Meta Deye. He and Gladys Myrtle Hahs were married in 1941. Deye was formerly of Friedheim. He was a graduate of St. Paul's College at Concordia, Mo., and in 1939 graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and then was ordained into the ministry...

FRIEDHEIM, Mo. -- The Rev. Armin Ulfert Deye, 92, of Emporia, Kan., died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006.

He was born July 10, 1913, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, son of John and Meta Deye. He and Gladys Myrtle Hahs were married in 1941.

Deye was formerly of Friedheim. He was a graduate of St. Paul's College at Concordia, Mo., and in 1939 graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and then was ordained into the ministry.

He served churches in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Spring Valley, Rochester, St. Paul, Stockton and Rushford, Minn. In many of his parishes he also taught piano lessons, played trumpet, and served as choir director and organist. Deye was editor of the Lutheran Journal almost 50 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harold Deye of Austin, Minn., Donald Deye of Cambridge, Minn.; three daughters, Dorothy Snow of Lees Summit, Mo., Kathryn Riemer of Cumberland, Wis., Carol Russell of Emporia; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Friends may call at Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia from 9 a.m. to service time today

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Norbert Tegtmeier officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery west of Olpe, Kan.

Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
