ROCKVIEW, Mo. -- The Rev. Alvie Surface, son of the late Homer and Cora Bass Surface, was born Sept. 2, 1933, in Delta and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, at St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, Missouri, surrounded by his family, at the age of 86 years.

Alvie worked as a farmer and at Florsheim Shoe Co. for many years, but his most important work was his work for God. He was a bishop in the Church of God and a member of the church in Jackson, where he pastored for 39 years. He dedicated his life to telling others about God and His love.

On Oct. 30, 1955, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Joan Crader in Mississippi. She survives of the home in Rockview.

Besides his wife, survivors include daughters, Barbara (Dennis) Cook and Sarah Lee Abernathy, both of Chaffee, Missouri; sister, Betty Pearman of Chaffee; granddaughters, Christina Cook of Chaffee and Rebecca (Jason) Ramos of Oran, Missouri; and great-granddaughters, Jordyn Cook, Willow Ramos and Autumn Ramos.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Greg Pace officiating. Interment will follow in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with full military honors.
