Reinhold Henry Hellwege, 87, of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 24, 1911, at Altenburg, son of Emanuel Hellwege and Elenora Weber Hellwege.

He married Bertha Perr Nov. 15, 1941, at Altenburg. She survives.

Hellwege was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was baptized Dec. 31, 1911, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg. He was confirmed in the church at Altenburg March 28, 1926, by the Rev. A.A. Vogel.

He farmed until 1957 in the New Wells area. He worked as a maintenance man for Cape Girardeau Public Schools 25 years, retiring in 1982.

He is survived by a son, Donald Hellwege of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Velma Perr of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Connie Brennecke of Dallas Texas, Mark Starnes of Cape Girardeau and Greg Hellwege of St. Louis; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Brennecke, Josh Brennecke and Jesse Brennecke, all of Dallas.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Steffens; three brothers and a sister.

Service will be held at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, at 10:30 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. David Hintz officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Cape Girardeau. Casket bearers will be Norman Hellwege, Arnold Koenig, Keith Popitz; Mark Starnes, Greg Hellwege, Kent Brennecke and Ron Griffith.,

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
