Regis Kieffer
ORAN, Mo. -- Regis N. "Slim" Kieffer, 84, of Malinta, Ohio, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at his home.
He was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Duquesne, Pa., son of Alvin and Bertha Kremmel Kieffer. He and Wilma Fredericks were married July 23, 1948, in Jeffersonville, Ind.
Kieffer worked at Tri-County Electric and Toledo Edison 36 years. He owned and operated Home Restaurant in Malinta and managed Malinta Mutual Telephone Co.
He was former mayor of Malinta and helped start Malinta's first rescue squad, as he served on the Malinta Fire Department more than 20 years.
Kieffer was a member of Malinta Memorial United Methodist Church, Henry County Sheriff's Department Auxiliary, Malinta Police Department 15 years, and a life member of Malinta Legion Post 400 and Napoleon, Ohio, VFW Post 8218.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Vicky Dannenmueller of Oran, Mo., Regina "Jean" Wheeler and Melisa Heitman of Malinta, Rebecca Warner of Toledo, Ohio; two brothers, David Kieffer of Sherwood, Ohio, Tom Kieffer of Melrose, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rodenberger Funeral Home in Napoleon, and one hour prior to the service Friday at Malinta Memorial UMC. A fireman's last call service will be held at 7 tonight.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Grelton Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Malinta and Napoleon VFW Posts.
